Travelogue. Made two weeks after the opening of the Big Bend highway and the Banff-Jasper Highway, this film depicts the scenery of British Columbia as seen from the Trans-Canada Highway between Vancouver and Field, with side trips from Jasper to Banff and into the Okanagan Valley.

[Beginning of trip to Hazelton, 1928]

Amateur film. In summer 1928, two carloads of travellers drive from Kamloops to Hazelton and return, filming highlights of their trip. These include the Cariboo Road, Barkerville, Bear Lake, Summit Lake, Stuart Lake, Fort St. James, Bulkley River, Telkwa River, and Skeena River. Footage from this trip is continued on film F1984:01/05.

[52]; lessons in the classroom of a girls' school [50]; various views of a small town situated beside a lake, and nearby roads used by lumber truck and two-horse wagon [90]; automotive shop with men repairing fender (of Booth's car?), and a sawmill in operation [49]; children's life in a mining town, with sailing at nearby lake [236]; aspects of a cordwood supply company [205B]; moose hunting trip by horseback, grouse hunters return to cabin, horse-drawn wagon delivers boats to lakeside [246A]; a caravan of cars leave a garage and head onto a highway where they pass a horse and buggy [227]; children and soldiers play miniature golf in a back yard, and man and boy fish from a boat [162].

Footage. Baby and woman in a park. Long sequence on the "General Motors Parade of Progress" (several streamlined trucks at a fairground - presumably some kind of traveling exhibition); faded shots of various people (including Oscar Burritt and Dorothy Fowler) at English Bay beach; trip to Harrison Hot Springs [ca.1938], showing people in car, scenery en route, Harrison Lake, car ferry etc.; scenes of parade marking "May Day, A Day of International Solidarity" [01-May-1938?], including marchers with flags, banners, trade union representation, etc; brief scene of oriental man lifting weights.

California by car 1939 : parts 1-4

The item consists of a travelogue on four film reels. It shows an automobile trip to California and back, beginning at Port Angeles and ending in Victoria. The film is believed to have been made by an unidentified Victoria citizen.

Canada's evergreen playground

the item is a travelogue film. "An animated curtain rises to reveal waves washing in on a sandy beach. [Long shot of] Hatley Park castle from pond at bottom the garden, a rowboat passing by. "Princess Kathleen", CPR ferry, arrives in Victoria's Inner Harbour with visitors crowding the decks. [Close-up of] passengers along the rails as ship passes. Empress Hotel over the after deck of the "Kathleen". Passengers leave the ship, down gangways into a shed. Car driving along ramp out of a ferry named the "Olympic", under a sign reading: "Come again, Au revoir. For information apply Victoria Publicity Bureau." Several other cars disembark. Good aerial view of Inner Harbour, Customs House, CPR ferries and etc. from top of Parliament Buildings; pans across to Empress Hotel. Sign on a building reads: "New England Cafe -? ? ? - Ask anybody". Also good [long shot of] old Post Office, Belmont Building, streetcar passing on Causeway. A man and a girl examine a rose bush in the Empress garden. Ladies in Mayor Pendray's topiary garden look at a sitting bear, a fat bird, a bird's roost, etc. CPR ferry in [background]. Old codgers lawn bowling. Oak Bay golf course with golfers and CPR ferry sailing by in [background]. Swimming and diving in the Crystal Gardens. "Empress of Japan" in Esquimalt dry dock. Shot down Moss Street (?) with Olympic Mountains in distance. Mount Baker in far distance from Malahat overlooking Pat Bay. Car driving over Malahat Drive -- several shots including one down Finlayson Arm. A car travelling through the forest over a dirt road; a man & woman walk through ferns beneath the trees. Two couples hold hands around the base of a large tree. Car continues through forest. A speedboat, perhaps on Cowichan Lake. A gracious tea being served outdoors by a maid dressed in black, somewhere on the Oak Bay Golf Course, with the ocean & Olympic mountains in [background]. [Cariboo region, Vancouver, Fraser Valley]

Footage. A film showing tourism and commerce in three areas: the Cariboo region around 100 Mile House, Vancouver, and the upper Fraser Valley. Cariboo region subjects include fishing, motoring, horseback riding, boating, hiking, pioneer buildings, a covered wagon, and ranching. In Vancouver the focus is shipping. Upper Fraser Valley subjects include Chilliwack businesses and residences, agriculture, outdoor recreation, Hope area campgrounds, Fort Hope Lodge, hiking, boating, and horseback riding. Visitors cross the Fraser River in a canoe to see a waterfall.

[Cariboo road]

Footage. A travel film presenting outdoor attractions and community life along the highways linking the Fraser Canyon to Clinton and Lillooet. Featured are swimming, fishing, hiking, sightseeing, motoring through the Fraser Canyon and accommodations such as hotels, resorts and auto courts. Community subjects include children clowning and swimming, ranching, railway trains, a covered wagon, native basketry for sale, building and students at St. George's Indian Residential School (Lytton), abandoned roadhouses, and the towns of Lytton, Spences Bridge, Ashcroft, Clinton and Lillooet. In the last sequence on the reel, townsfolk in Lillooet extract a vintage automobile from an old garage, push it onto the town’s main street, and start it up.

Columbia adventure

The item is a travelogue. A family enjoys an automobile trip through the Columbia watershed, following the Columbia River from its mouth on the Pacific coast to its source in southeastern British Columbia. En route, there are views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks and the Columbia Icefield, including Athabasca Glacier.

This series contains correspondence relating to roads in the Victoria district. It includes a request for new road construction from the Victoria Driving Club and the Victoria Tourist Association, and correspondence about cows wandering at large in Oak Bay. Also includes a small sketch. Reverse of sketch not on microfilm.

Essays and accounts

The series consists of microfilmed transcripts of short essays on various subjects, including the transport and mining industries in B.C., the history of B.C., descriptions of Victoria and other B.C. cities by Cariboo grocer Leonard A. Coton. Also includes accounts of car trips taken by L.A. Coton to the Okanagan, the Cariboo and on Vancouver Island in the 1950s.

First automobiles in Nelson

Item consists of one photograph of the first automobiles in Nelson, BC on October 6, 1912. The image depicts thirteen men posed in or around three cars, including Jack Haney and Thomas W. Wilby on their 1912 cross-Canada trip from Halifax to Vancouver in a Reo automobile known as the "Pathfinder".

Footage. This is a compilation of footage showing motoring through the Fraser Canyon from Hope to near Lytton. Depicted at length are the canyon gorges and the turbulent Fraser River, as well as the highway and railway routes along the steep canyon walls. Also shows motorists' accommodations en route: Fort Hope Tavern, All Hallow's Lodge (Yale), and Alexandra Lodge.

The item is a composite print of a travelogue film from ca. 1970. It depicts a scenic trip on the "Queen of Prince Rupert" from Kelsey Bay to Prince Rupert introducing such destinations as Vancouver, Victoria and the Cariboo. Includes shots of Active Pass, Barkerville, Campbell River and the W.A.C. Bennett Dam. The Inside Passage and the province's highways are seen as parallel north-south "highways."
