Biographical history
The Advisory Council, Provincial Civilian Protection Committee was formed in March 1942 by Premier John Hart. The mandate of the committee was to advise and assist the Provincial Committee for the Organization of Air Raid Precautions (chaired by John Hart) in the organization of air raid precautions in the province. The chairman of the Advisory Committee was W.C. Mainwaring, of the B.C. Electric Company.
Through OIC 491/1942, the Advisory Council was merged with the Civilian Protection Branch of the Provincial Police and made the operating committee responsible for training, dissemination of information and providing grants to local groups for the purchase of air raid equipment.
The Advisory Council was closed down in September 1945.

Custodial history unknown. Acquired around 1945 and entered into the HP accession book as individual items.
Scope and content
The series consists of 77 black and white photographs created by the Advisory Council, Provincial Civilian Protection Committee between 1942 and 1945. The photographs show the Provincial Civilian Protection Committee and A.R.P. (Air Raid Precautions) activities in the province between 1942 and 1945. Most of the photographs were taken by Steffens-Colmer Ltd. of Vancouver and have typed captions and photographer numbers on the back.
The photographs depict the following activities: headquarters and staff of the committee; A.R.P. firefighting practical training; first aid and hospital incident practice; A.R.P. students and teams; power boat squadrons, ambulances, mobile canteens and other equipment and public information activities including parades and instruction in the use of respirators for civilians.
