Acquired in 2011 from the University of Victoria Archives. Records were accessioned by the University of Victoria Archives as 91-085 and 94-031. The records were donated in two accessions in 1991 and 1994 by Velva Rossiter via the City of Victoria Archives.

Scope and content

The series consists of files created by the B.C. Indian Arts and Welfare Society between 1942 to 1983 and contain the following: briefs relating to Indian arts and welfare, 1942-1958; correspondence relating to general subjects, arts and crafts, B.C. and Canadian government departments and native organizations, 1961-1972; financial records, 1948-1983; governance records, including constitution, general, executive and committee minutes and reports, 1951-1981; publications, 1947-1981; visitors' book, 1950-1983; newspaper clipping scrapbooks, 1946-1971; a painting of a seagull on a piece of driftwood and the Ravenhill copper plaque, donated by Alice Ravenhill in 1952 and awarded three times between 1956 and 1959.

Records that date prior to 1951 were created by BCIAWS predecessor body, Society for the Furtherance of British Columbia Indian Arts and Crafts. The files are arranged alphabetically by subject.
