History
The British Columbia Petroleum Corporation (BCPC) was a crown corporation, established by the Petroleum Corporation Act (assent 7th November, 1973).
According to the act, the objects of the BCPC, and its powers, were: (a) to buy and sell petroleum and natural gas; (b) to build, purchase, lease or otherwise acquire, operate and dispose of pipelines, gathering systems and storage facilities; (c) to explore for, develop and produce petroleum and natural gas; and (d) to acquire and hold lands containing or thought or appearing to contain petroleum or natural gas.
No annual reports were issued prior to 1979/80; financial statements only were issued during this period. The corporation was partially privatized in 1990 and dissolved in September 1994, with its functions absorbed into the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources.
