The item consists of an audio interview with Beth Dickie recorded in Victoria, B.C. on August 17, 1983

Tape summary:
Track 1: Beth Dickie was born Beth Stewart in Wellington in 1909 and moved to Victoria around 1910. Her father worked as a boilermaker in a foundry. There were five children in the family. Her family lived on Fraser Street. She describes the house and the daily tasks performed by the mother and children to run the household. Talks in detail about the Chinese man who delivered the produce and fish. Mother belonged to Women's Institute and father was a member of the Boiler Maker's Union. She talks about her girlfriend and herself picking strawberries for several weeks each summer starting at age 12 or 13. Attended Lampson Street School and took domestic science. Her domestic science teacher was Miss McKinnon.

Track 2: Beth Dickie continues the discussion about domestic science -- what they cooked and sewed. Started working at B.C. Tel in 1924 at age 16. Was forced to quit in 1938 when she married. During the War she worked on the switchboard at the dockyards in Victoria. Discusses the home she lived in after she was married.
