History

The colonial office of gold commissioner was created by proclamation on 7 Sep 1859. After Confederation in 1871 the title "gold commissioner" became restricted to those officials performing the administrative and judicial duties laid out in mining legislation. The first Gold Commissioner for Omineca District was appointed in approximately 1870.
