History
The mission of the Forest Practices Board is to serve the public interest as the independent watchdog for sound forest and range practices in the province. It is responsible for reporting to the public and government about compliance with, and enforcement of, the British Columbia Forest Practice Code, and achievement of its intent.
The Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act was introduced in the legislature in May 1994, and approved two months later. The government then established the Forest Practices Board under Part 8 of the Act. A new, six-member board started by establishing the audit and investigations programs. The Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act and 18 regulations, including the Forest Practices Board Regulation, were proclaimed into law on June 15, 1995.
Section 123 of the Forest and Range Practice Act states that the Forest Practices Board must deal with complaints from the public. Complaints that comply with sections 6 and 7 of the Forest Practices Board Regulation are investigated. Before and during a complaint investigation, the Forest Practices Board attempts to bring participants together and encourages them to find solutions to all or some of the issues raised in a complaint. If the complaint cannot be resolved, the Forest Practices Board completes an investigation and may make recommendations in a public report.
