History

In 1976, the energy portfolio was created and added to the mandate of the Dept. of Transport and Communications. The department was then renamed the Ministry of Energy, Transport and Communications (OIC 1976-3199). The Ministry continued the same mandate: provide transportation and communications policy for the province, to provide and plan for transportation and communications requirements, and to establish such services for government departments.

In 1978, the ministry was disestablished and the functions of transportation, commercial transport, and communications were transferred to the Ministry of Transportation, Communications and Highways (OIC 3012/78). Energy was transferred to the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (OIC 3012/78).
