History
The Ministry of Regional Development was established in 1988 with the purpose to "stimulate economic development and diversification throughout the Province at a regional and local community level" (OIC 1309/1988). Most of its functions were transferred from the disestablished Ministry of Economic Development, aside from those transferred to the new Ministry of International Business and Immigration. In 1989 the Ministry of Regional Development was renamed the Ministry of Regional and Economic Development (OIC 1575/1989).
