History
The Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division was first established in 1939 as the Parks Section of the British Columbia Forest Branch. In May 1948 it was renamed the Parks Division as part of the Forest Service and in 1949 it became the Parks and Recreation Division, Forest Service. On March 28, 1957 it became the Parks Branch and reported to the newly created Dept. of Recreation and Conservation. On December 5, 1978, the branch was amalgamated with the Land Management Branch and the housing function of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to form part of the Ministry of Lands, Parks and Housing. In January 1979 the name changed again to the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Dept. and in May of that year, it changed back to its earlier name, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division.
