SUMMARY: "The Bush and the Salon" was a CBC radio series that recreated early Canadian life from letters, diaries and other sources. This episode, "The Secret Ocean", by Alan Oman, recounts the decline of the Spanish colonial empire in the Americas and their loss of supremacy in the Pacific Ocean. The years 1774 to 1803 saw various events -- including those at Nootka Sound -- that led to the reversal of the Spanish fortunes. Actors include Peter Haworth, Christopher Gaze, Michael Collins, Roy Brinson, Terrence Kelly, Walter Marsh, Barney O'Sullivan, Joseph Golland and Daryl Rachel.;
