Alfred E. Booth : logging footage, early 1930s

The item is a video copy of film footage. Consists of inorganized black and white footage of logging and sawmilling, especially of Western Red Cedar -- apparently by the Capilano Timber Company in North Vancouver and vicinity, ca. early 1930s. Includes footage of: hand logging, felling of large trees, a high-rigger climbing and topping a spar tree, a steam donkey engine at work, yarding of logs, a logging railroad, log booming, sawmill operations, cutting of cedar shakes, sorting and stacking of lumber, sawmill yard vehicles, and the loading of logs and timbers onto a Japanese freighter on the (North Vancouver?) waterfront. Many of the shots show the presence of snow, and appear quite "contrasty".

Land of the Lions : out-takes

The item consists of two reel of colour out-takes from the film "Land of the lion", a travelogue on the scenic and recreational attractions of the area between Horseshoe Bay and Deep Cove. The outs include area scenery and footage of boat racing, riding, parade and celebrations marking May Day and/or Victoria Day, skiing, street scenes and general views.

Reservoirs in the sky

The item is a release print of a documentary film made by the Greater Vancouver Water District ca. 1948. It shows how the Greater Vancouver Water District supplies water to Vancouver and surrounding communities. There is footage of the North Shore watershed, rivers, lakes and storage dams -- including Capilano River, Seymour River, Coquitlam Lake, Little Mountain Reservoir and Pitt Meadows area. It also shows how water from the North Shore gets to the urban areas, pipeline construction and future plans of the GVWD.
