Biographical history
Commissioner: Alexander Henderson, K.C., of Vancouver. Appointed March 2, 1921; report dated April 25, 1921. The commissioner was appointed to inquire generally into matters relating to or affecting the price of coal to consumers in British Columbia. Specifically, the commissioner investigated the costs of coal production and transportation to dealers, the costs to consumers, the profits of coal mine owners and operators and the profits to coal dealers.

This series consists of the records of the Commission on Coal, 1921. The records include transcripts of proceedings of hearings, exhibits, Mining engineer, R.G.E. Leckie's report and accountant P.A. Foster's report. Also included is the commissioner's report in which he recommended that the short ton be used in government compilations and all sales, dealers be licensed and required to submit monthly returns, that coal stocks be accumulated during summer months, grading standards be adopted, combines be dissolved, and an effort be made to reduce freight rates on both land and water.
