Biographical history
In 1908 the British Columbia government established a Supreme Court registry at Cranbrook, effective June 22, 1908. It was approved and ordered by Order-in-Council # 0388-1908 dated June 10, 1908. (Source: Orders-in-Council and British Columbia Gazette 1908, p. 2188)
By the same order, the Registry of the Supreme Court at Fort Steele was closed.
Currently (to March 31, 2016) the Cranbrook Registry of the Supreme Court continues as an active registry.
Custodial history
Scope and content
This series contains probate/estate files.
The file number refers to the number assigned by the court registry rather than to the file's physical order in the box. Each year, the numbering system restarted from 1 and ascended chronologically. Thus, it is possible to have multiple files with the same number in a box, as they date from different years.
