He also discusses dominion/provincial relations and the E & N Railway. 20 December 1977. TRACK 2: In an interview with Jim Hume, Bennett discusses the upcoming Oak Bay by-election of 1978, dominion/provincial relations, and BC proposals made at a premiers' conference on economic planning. He also comments upon the retirement of the Lieutenant Governor, Walter Owen. 20 December 1977.

He comments on Prime Minister Trudeau's threatened use of force to keep Québec in confederation; he also discusses the BC Tel strike and the Royal Commission Special Report, and the Fort Nelson extension of the BCR. Among other issues mentioned are a federal dry dock in Vancouver, the BCRIC, and the E & N Railway appeal. 5 January 1978. [TRACK 2: blank.]

the item is a travelogue film. "An animated curtain rises to reveal waves washing in on a sandy beach. [Long shot of] Hatley Park castle from pond at bottom the garden, a rowboat passing by. "Princess Kathleen", CPR ferry, arrives in Victoria's Inner Harbour with visitors crowding the decks. [Close-up of] passengers along the rails as ship passes. Empress Hotel over the after deck of the "Kathleen". Passengers leave the ship, down gangways into a shed. Car driving along ramp out of a ferry named the "Olympic", under a sign reading: "Come again, Au revoir. For information apply Victoria Publicity Bureau." Several other cars disembark. Esquimalt Graving Dock, Thetis Cove, Esquimalt Harbour : plans

This unit consists of plans, renderings and photographs prepared in connection with two calls for tenders on the dry dock in Thetis Cove, Esquimalt Harbour (now called Naden Graving Dock). The first call was published in the British Columbia Gazette beginning Nov. 25, 1871. The submission of Thomas A. Bulkley was the only tender (plans in item 1) received by the deadline of Mar. 20, 1872, and this was rejected. Mr. Bulkley was then hired as Chief Engineer to the British Columbia Government. He was responsible for, among other things, preparing plans and specifications to be put at the disposal of bidders when the Government invited further tenders beginning Apr. 27, 1872 (closing Nov. 15, 1872). These latter plans form the bulk of the unit.

Muir interview

CALL NUMBER: T0639:0001 RECORDED: [location unknown], [196-] SUMMARY: TRACK 1: Mr. Muir discusses how sailors would dock at Esquimalt in 1903 including the clothes they wore and dances they did, the music the sailors played on the streets of Victoria, more on the sailors, his father (Archie Muir) who was the first engineer at the dry dock, packing fish in the old days, what the old dry dock was like including activities there in 1887, the native boys while he was in school, the children of Naval officers, more on what life was like, his work in a machine shop in 1900, what the inside of a store in Esquimalt was like, and more on early Victoria. TRACK 2: Muir continues by describing what shops were like including the wooden floors and the card tables in the bars, how there were no civilians in the Navy yard, submarines in Esquimalt, using guns at the shooting range, Rev. Sharpe, and parties that the Germans gave, including the instruments used.
