The item consists of an audio interview with Elizabeth Rogers recorded in Victoria, B.C. on May 30, 1983.
Tape summaries:
T4088:0006: track 1: Elizabeth Rogers' parents came to Canada in 1912-1913, lured by the land promises of the CPR. Elizabeth was born in 1915. She describes early Vancouver. Her family moved every 1 1/2 years. Description of the kitchen she remembers most vividly. Wood stove heating dictated the activities of the whole family. Anything done with water was problematic. Housekeeping routine.
Track 2: Family diet. Took home economics at Sir Walter Moberly (1927-28). Thought it was a crazy idea, they had to bring their own food, and learned inefficient methods. Interesting class perspective. Describes home economics room. Women's roles. Reads a poem she wrote about factory work 1914-1918. Talks about poverty in Vancouver.
