The item is a composite print of a travelogue from 1969. It shows the summer and winter activities in the Columbia Valley of the East Kootenay region. A sequence on the area's history is followed by shots of various approaches to the Valley, and footage of Fernie, ranching, wildlife, skiing, the Kimberley Snow Fiesta, snowmobiling, fishing (ice & stream), the Kootenay Trout Hatchery, Wasa Lake, a modern paddlewheeler, water skiing, the restored pioneer community of Fort Steele, mountain climbing in the Bugaboos, trail riding, provincial campsites, Radium Hot Springs and Fairmont.

Album [views of British Columbia and Quebec]

File consists of one photograph album containing photographs depicting scenes and people in British Columbia and Quebec. The British Columbia photographs depict Indigenous people, the Canadian Pacific Railway at Yale Canyon and various views of Fraser Canyon, a paddle wheeler on the Fraser River (Hope, Yale), a pack train and G.M. Sproat, fishing operations, hunting along the Skeena River, militia and navy groups, and the H.M.S. Caroline at Esquimalt.

Some of the portraits of Indigenous people included in this album appear to have been taken during Department of Indian Affairs tours of inspection in 1873 near Cape Caution (including J-04207). In the album, the photographs are dated 1883.

And-- and Let's go fishing

The item is VHS video containing copies of two films copied from the National Film, Television and Sound Archives, National Archives of Canada in 1986. The first item on the video is the experimental film "And---", made around 1939. Perhaps the first experimental film made in British Columbia, this short uses found footage, painted and scratched emulsion, negative and reversed images, chaotic camera movements, and holes punched in the frame and filled with other images. Some portions are hand coloured.

The second item on the videotape is "Let's go Fishing", an industrial film made by the British Columbia Dept. of Fisheries in 1948. It depicts commercial salmon fishing and canning in BC and includes fish ladders at Hells Gate and Bridge River rapids, the operations of gillnetters and purse-seiners, long, good interior sequence of canning processes (including footage of an "Iron Chink" salmon butchering machine) and cannery workers.

This series consists of Assistant Deputy Minister Stuart Culbertson’s records of the BC Fisheries Secretariat, 1996-1998. The secretariat was involved in a variety of fisheries related activities, agreements and committees, including: salmon fishing, allocation and management; women in fishing; and consultation with First Nations, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders, such as the Nisga’a Nation. The item is a reel of film stock shots from ca. 1977. It contains miscellaneous B.C. scenery. Aerial views of coastline (Long Beach). Shots of seals, small islands, and people playing in the surf. Mountainside waterfall and stream. Shots of and from a car on a highway. Water skiing; canoeing. Loggers' sports events. Sequence on the Royal Hudson steam train, with shots of and from the train going south along Howe Sound, aerial shots, travelling shots, etc. Aerial shots of a BC Ferry, Active Pass, Gulf Islands. Swimming, boating, sports fishing. Aerial views of mountains. Camping on the shore of a lake; canoeing, glacier, mountains. Cowboys take part in rodeo events; audience looks on. Orchard scenes: trees in blossom, fruit, etc. Long final shot of fisherman casting from a small boat, silhouetted against the sunset.
