The item consists of an audio interview with Florence Winchester recorded in Victoria B.C. on June 22, 1983.

Tape summary:
Track 1: Florence Winchester was born Florence H. Alexander in 1896. Her grandfather and mother came to Victoria to live. He was a Jamaican minister, and her grandmother was Spanish. Describes home and diet. She refused to take home economics at Girls' Central School. She never knew how to cook, but learned after marriage because it was her duty. Went to one domestic science course and thought it used "too many gadgets".
