Biographical history
Established March 28, 1945 when the Forest Branch of the Dept. of Lands became the Forest Service of the Dept. of Lands and Forests. The Forest Service retained its name when the Dept. of Lands and Forests became the Dept. of Lands, Forests and Water Resources in March 1962. On Dec. 23, 1975 the Forest Service was transferred to the newly created Dept. of Forests. Ceased to exist April 1979.

Scope and content
This series contains log books of Forest Service launches "M.V. Salt Mist" and Landing Craft (L.C.) No. 5, as well as materials relating to the construction, maintenance and registration of Forest Service vessels. Although the earliest records date from 1921, some of the vessels had been in Departmental Service as early as 1913. The series alsoincludes a file of 10 b&w photographs of a boat launch and marine station building.

Immediate source of acquisition
Transferred to Project 87 from Ministry of Forests, Marine Services and received by PABC in 1984.
Arrangement
The photographs were removed from the records in 1987, transferred to the Visual Records Dept. and reaccessioned as 198702-014. They were reunited with their original file, box 2, folder 7, in 2022.
