This series consists of a variety of range management and recreational land use records created from 1982-2001 by the Fort Nelson Forest District, a division of the Prince George Forest Region. All files were managed as part of the Fort Nelson Forest District when the files were closed and transferred to the archives.

The series includes the following types of records:

Range management records relate to the administration of Grazing Licences and Grazing Permits as defined under the Range Act, and Grazing Leases as defined under the Land Act. This includes their issuance, amendment, transfer, billing, monitoring, policy, and administration. This may include records concerning additions and deletions of land and/or authorized Animal Unit Months (AUM) from grazing tenures. Records may include tenure application forms, grazing plans, range use plans, correspondence, maps, photos, surveys, reports, and use, and information on range improvements and clearing. Improvements can include infrastructure such as fences, gates and improving access to water sources for livestock through water licences.

The other records relate to the use and management of natural resources in the area, as well as recreation resources in Provincial forests. This includes trails and sites with value for tourism or other recreational uses, such as snowmobiling, dog mushing and skiing. The records document the location, creating, management, and use of such sites.

Forest Service project site/trail files relate to the routine maintenance, rehabilitation and development of Forest Service recreation sites and trails. Includes records relating to the planning, designation, assessment, design and construction of recreation sites and trails. Types of records can include correspondence, reports, studies, published material, photos, and maps. There is also a file regarding the Small Business Forest Enterprise Program.

This series consists of cutting permits and other forest tenure records created from 1979-1999 by the Fort Nelson Forest District, a division of the Prince George Forest Region. All files were managed as part of the Fort Nelson Forest District when the files were closed and transferred to the archives.

The series includes the following types of timber tenures: forest licences and one silviculture audit file. The majority of files relate to cutting permits. Licensees were required to apply for a forest licence or similar tenure and cutting permits in order to harvest timber. Records regard the issuance, evaluation, administration, monitoring, planning, replacement, cancellation, deletion and extension of these timber tenures.

The records include legal documents, operations information, correspondence, forms, reports, maps, licences, permits, permit amendment or renewal documentation, applications, logging plans, reports, silviculture prescriptions, stumpage adjustment, and financial records.

The records were classified as 18765-20 and 19500-20 in the Forest Operational Records Classification System (ORCS).

The item consists of 20 camera original, unedited films created by Georgiana Ball between about 1957 and 1970. Original films 1-11 and 12-20 were combined onto 2 film reels by the BC Archives upon acquisition.

The film are "home movies", primarily of ranching activities in the Stikine and Liard regions, particularly showing the communities of Telegraph Creek and Trutch. Other locations include Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Ocean Falls, Dawson Creek, Dease Lake, Stikine River, Mount Edziza and Banff, Alberta. Activities shown include Ball family Diamond B Ranch game guiding operations, ranching, haying, packing and various types of transportation including horseback, pack horses, river boats (incl. Judith Ann), cargo ships (incl. Northland Prince, Skeena Prince), bush planes (North Coast Airways) and helicopters.

The item is a documentary film made by the National Film Board of Canada in 1961. It shows the free book service of the BC Public Library Commission, serving oil towns, army bases, mining camps and scattered settlements along the Alaska Highway. Shows the library van's annual trip north from Dawson Creek to Whitehorse, Yukon, with a side trip to Atlin. Includes footage of oil and gas drilling and road construction, and of asbestos mining operations at Cassiar.

The sub-series consists of glass plate photographic negatives created by a topographical surveying party headed by A.J. Campbell, B.C.L.S. in 1941, working on behalf of the Topographic Division of the Department of Lands. The sub-series may include photographs of and/or taken from the following locations: Earle River, Lower Post, Turnagain River. The items are arranged based on the creator's numbering of the plates (plate number - original plate box number).

The sub-series consists of oral history interviews about the history of the Liard, Finlay, Parsnip and Peace River regions, before and during the First World War.

RECORDED: [location unknown], 1980-08 SUMMARY: In a tape-recorded reminiscence, Percy Gray discusses the origins and history of the Central B.C. Development Project, directly concerned with the Peace River, Williston Lake and W.A.C. Bennett Dam areas.

SUMMARY: "The Road To The Yukon" features interviews by CBC reporter Bill Herbert with people who lived along the Alaska Highway, from Dawson Creek, B.C. to Dawson City, Yukon. Part 2 of 9 features a discussion about Fort Nelson's past and future, including interviews with several residents.
