The Board of Admiralty was responsible for the civil administration of the Royal Navy. In 1964, a unified Ministry of Defence replaced the Board of Admiralty.

This series contains various papers and letters as outlined below:

Admiralty and Secretariat Papers: New General Series, 1873-1875. Includes extracts from vol. 6283 of series [re: torpedo boats, conveyance of contraband by neutrals, etc.]; -vol. 6296 [General Letters from Admirals, Plymouth Sound]; vol. 6299 [General Letters from Commander-in-Chief, North American and West Indies Station]; and vol. 6302 [General Letters from Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Station]. Also includes extracts from series volumes 6306 - 6308 [General Letters from Captains, "A-Z"]. Last volume relates to desertion of R.N. personnel from H.M. ships in Esquimalt, 1874.
