The Health Association of British Columbia was incorporated as Society S37257 on August 21, 1997 under the name Provincial Health Association of British Columbia. The association changed its name on January 19, 1998 to the Health Association of British Columbia. The purpose of the association was to assist in improving the quality and the delivery of health services to the residents of British Columbia and it represented hospitals and community care organizations throughout the province. The predecessor associations were the British Columbia Hospitals' Association, which formed in 1918, and the British Columbia Association of Community Care. As a result of government restructuring in December 2001 and a loss in membership, the Health Association of British Columbia underwent voluntary dissolution effective June 30, 2002.

The fonds consists of the records of the Health Association of British Columbia and its predecessor organization the British Columbia Hospitals' Association. The records date from 1918 to 2002.

In 1984, the Provincial Archives of British Columbia borrowed and microfilmed the Proceedings and related documents of the annual convention of the British Columbia Hospitals' Association and the British Columbia Health Association, 1918-1983.
