Impressions of the Peace

The item is a composite print of a travelogue from 1977. It shows the Peace River region in British Columbia, including footage of Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Hudson's Hope, Prince George, W.A.C. Bennett Dam, government campsites, local celebrations, heritage sites, farming, recreation, etc.

James Beattie correspondence

The file consists of correspondence inward to James Walker Beattie, guide and outfitter, 1912-1916. Contains correspondence and monthly game reports of the Hudson Hope detachment of B.C. Provincial Police.

John Lamont interview

RECORDED: [location unknown], 1965-11-06 SUMMARY: TRACK 1: Mr. John Lamont describes how he came to Canada from Scotland via the United States; the trip from Edmonton to the Peace River country; homesteading; building farm houses; and the developmen;t and growth of the Peace River country. He describes starting a cattle breeding establishment with a prize calf; crops; social events; old characters; the town of Peace River; Hudson's Hope and Dawson Creek. TRACK 2: Mr. Lamont describes Herman Trelle, a German farmer who won awards for his wheat, and talks about the "D.A. Thomas", a riverboat that ran from Hudson's Hope and Vermillion.

Journal

Microfilmed copy of journal kept at Fort St. John and Hudson's Hope containing records of trading supplies, company servants, outside traders and casual employees. Data includes quantities and qualities of furs traded together with the values of both the furs and the trade goods. Lists of supplies from Lesser Slave Lake plus costs and logistics of transporting them to the Peace River and the furs out are shown. Later, probably ca. 1927, blank and little used pages have been used for recipes.

Indians and treaty money. Ranching. Daughter was the first white child. Husband's work at Portage on the telegraph, at the Post Office, and as a notary public. Children's schooling at Hudson's Hope.

Peace River project : selected footage or out-takes

The item consists of five reels of original reversal footage/outs from ca. 1964 to 1969. The footage shows aspects of the Peace River project other than dam or powerhouse construction. Footage includes: exploring the Peace River canyon by boat; settlements and farms along the river; fossils and geology; burning of abandoned buildings; flooded areas and debris; land clearing, construction and community scenes in and around Hudson's Hope from ca. 1964-1965.
