The papers which comprise MS-0364 were received from Imbert Orchard by the BC Archives Aural History Programme in 1974. They were transferred from the Aural History Programme to the the archives' Manuscripts and Government Records Division in 1976. Further manuscript material was received from Orchard in 1984-85. The papers were reorganized and recatalogued by Manuscripts and Government Records Division staff in 1986.
Scope and content
The series consists of scripts, notes, correspondence and background material related to the production of Orchard's documentary radio programs at CBC Vancouver, including the series "Living Memory" (1961-1964), "From the Mountains to the Sea" (1967)," and People in Landscape" (1968-1972). These programs were mainly based on Orchard's tape-recorded oral history interviews with B.C. pioneers (found in MS-3268). Also included in the papers are written reminiscences of some of Orchard's interviewees, notably Martin Starret, William John "Wiggs" O'Neill and Martha (O'Neill) Boss. These records, together with assorted pamphlets and newspaper cuttings, constitute MS-0364.

Material in the Orchard Collection was originally filed by subject, an arrangement which has been maintained here. Orchard also employed a letter-code to designate files which pertained to a specific area or region in the province. A key to his letter-code is included in the finding aid.
