The item is a release print of a documentary film made by Fortune Films Ltd., ca. 1957. It describes the growing menace of air pollution as a result of industrial growth and urban development in BC. Animated cartoons reveal the historical roots of air pollution in Vancouver. Live-action footage includes general views of Vancouver, as well as various sources of air pollution -- smokestacks, sawmill waste burners, traffic, waste incinerators, etc. Efforts to regulate the problem are shown.

The series consists of reports and correspondence from 1986 to 1997. These records were created and acquired by John G. Callan, Commissioner of the Industrial Townships Commission between 1989 and 1997. The records mainly consist of reports, illustrated with colour photographs, written for the Minister of Municipal Affairs. The reports give detailed information about the annual inspection trips of the three member Industrial Townships Commission to the Kemano townsite, which was run by the Aluminum Company of Canada, Limited (Alcan).

SUPPLIED TITLE OF TAPE(S): A gardener remembers RECORDED: Sidney (B.C.), 1981-08 SUMMARY: John Bosher was already well schooled in gardening techniques when he arrived in North Saanich in 1919. As the years passed, he gained more experience, and although he spent over 30 years employed as a plant pathologist, his private garden was never neglected. Local garden clubs, horticultural societies, the Saanichton Fair, and many friends have benefitted from his expertise. At various times he has contributed to the community as school trustee. Village councillor, and a member of the water board.

The second item on the tape is "Twenty great years in British Columbia" which is a review of industrial development and economic growth in the province under the Social Credit government of W.A.C. Bennett, 1952-72, and an outline of the measures planned in its 1972 budget. Beginning with a review of BC's economic situation in 1951-52, the film shows how Social Credit policies encouraged development through improved highways, the BC Ferry system, the encouragement of tourism, the extension of the PGE Railway and the construction of power projects on the Peace and Columbia Rivers. The planned expenditures and priorities of the 1972 budget are illustrated.
