Biographical history

The Kunst family immigrated to Boswell, British Columbia in 1914 after spending many years in Dutch Indonesia. The family consisted of Dr. Johan Jurriaan Kunst, his wife Emma Meeter and children. The three oldest boys were the sons of Dr. Kunst first wife Betsy, who was the older sister of his second wife Emma. The boys were Fritjov (Milton), born 1899 and died in Vancouver in 1982; Tom (Tony), born 1901 and died in Cranbrook BC in 1971; Duco, born 1903 and died in Creston BC in 1935. The second marriage of Johan Kunst produced two children: Bob, born 1910, died in Edmonds Washington in 1923 and Betty, born 1911 and died in Seattle in 1983. Johan and Emma Kunst moved to Bothell Washington where Johan died in 1936 and Emma in 1956.

Custodial history

Accessions 199002-003 and 90-026 received in 1989 from Monica Muller. Accession 95-1634 received in 2002 from Henri Schutte.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Kunst family records and contain the following: Memoir of Milton Kunst; photographs, both negatives and prints, taken or acquired by Milton Kunst and biographical information about Dr. Johan Jurriaan Kunst and his family.
