Biographical history

Leigh Burpee Robinson was an author and historian who wrote a history of Esquimalt. She was born Leila Ada Burpee in New Brunswick in September 1882. She married Betram Digby Robinson in Esquimalt in 1927. The couple lived in Esquimalt where Bertram Robinson was private secretary to Norman Yarrow of Yarrows Shipyard. Bertram Robinson died in 1953 and Leigh Burpee Robinson died in 1974.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Leigh Burpee Robinson's scrapbooks, created between 1941 and 1956, which mainly pertain to her published newspaper articles "What's in a name" and her history of Esquimalt, B.C. The fonds also includes two black ink on paper sketches by Bertram Digby Robinson which were used for the cover and inside illustration in "Esquimalt place of shoaling water" published in 1947. In addition, there are 13 black and white photographs kept by Bertram D. Robinson which contain photographs of the Robinson's "Little House" as well as views of Yarrows shipyards and portraits.
