Biographical history

Royal Lethington Maitland was a lawyer and was elected MLA for Vancouver in 1928. In 1937, he was chosen leader of the provincial Conservative Party. In 1941, Maitland was reelected and with Premier John Hart formed a coalition government, serving as Attorney-General. The Maitland family resided primarily in Vancouver.

The fonds consists of personal correspondence, speeches, addresses and House logs relating to Legislative Assembly sessions, of R.L. Maitland. There are also notes and correspondence of Ruth Hildred Maitland and the correspondence of their children Robert, Elizabeth, William, and Norah.
