Kate Mather was a friend of Victoria artist Emily Carr. Mrs. Mather, who was born Kate Ellsworth Stovel in Prince Albert, Northwest Territories (Saskatchewan), on 29 Jun 1892, also operated a store in Victoria and sold some of Carr’s pottery and other artistic handicrafts. Mrs. Mather died in Victoria on 15 Jun 1961.
