The fonds comprises videotape copies of eight promotional, documentary or general-interest films produced for the Aluminum Company of Canada (or its successor, Alcan Canada Products) in the years 1951-1979. They depict the history, development and operations of the Kitimat project, including the Kenney Dam, the Kemano power plant, power transmission lines, Kitimat smelter, and the town and port of Kitimat. Four of these titles were made by Lew Parry Film Productions; two were produced by Crawley Films Ltd.

Breakthrough

Industrial film. Mining crews drill and blast a 10-mile-long tunnel through Mount DuBose to carry water from the Kenney Dam to drive the generators at Kemano power plant for Alcan's Kitimat project. Ingersoll-Rand tunnelling equipment is featured.

TRACK 2: Description of Frank Swannell. Surveying in British Columbia before 1920: Finlay; River, Liard River, Parsnip River, Cariboo, Pemberton Valley. Worked for B.C. Forest Service starting about 1914. Transportation in the central interior: stage coach and steamship. Steamship ride up the Nechako River. Horse and gas stages on the Cariboo Road. This series consists of records of the Ministry of Environment (previously the Dept. of Lands, Forests and Water Resources), Power and Special Projects Division. Records include correspondence, feasibility studies, consultants' reports, engineering studies, application hearings, submissions, progress reports, contract drawings and tender documents regarding hydro-electric projects, water licenses, flood control, petroleum refinery pollution, sewerage treatment plants, fisheries and wildlife, and environmental impact, 1949-1976.

The collection largely contains materials relating to Arrow Lakes Dam, 1949, 1954-1969; the Jordan River redevelopment project, 1968-1972; the Babine Lake development (Fulton River dam), 1967-1970; the Columbia River Mica Dam project, 1954-1970; the Duncan Lake storage development, 1971-1973; the Kootenay canal development, and the Portage Mountain development (Peace River W.A.C. Stanley Frame diaries and personal records

Stanley Howard Frame (1878-1973) was a surveyor who worked as a District Hydrometric Engineer for the Department of the Interior in Alberta, as Assistant Engineer, Irrigation Block in Alberta, and as a hydraulic engineer at the B.C. Water Rights Branch (1928-1947).

Diaries, 1916-1972, covering Frame's work as District Hydrometric Engineer, for the Dept. of the Interior, Cardston and McLeod districts, Alberta, 1916-1918; as Assistant Engineer, Irrigation Block, Brooks, Alberta for the CPR Dept. of Natural Resources, 1918-1928; and as hydraulic engineer, British Columbia Water Rights Branch, 1928-1947. The diaries also covers his life in Victoria to 1972. Memoirs, 1903-1913 of work as Grand Trunk Pacific engineer, Prairies, Prince Rupert and Calgary.
