The sub-series consists of glass plate photographic negatives created by a topographical surveying party headed by R.D. McCaw, B.C.L.S. in 1918, working on behalf of the Surveys Branch of the Department of Lands. The sub-series may include photographs of and/or taken from the following locations: Penticton, Ellis Creek, McLean Creek, Mount Kobau, Baldy Mountain, Osoyoos Lake, Apex Mountain. The items are arranged based on the creator's numbering of the plates (plate number - original plate box number).

Arrangement of items is according to the creator's original numbering. An example of the individual plate codes: 11-32-18 This code is made up of four elements: Plate #-Plate box # - Year. The example listed above would be located as follows: Year: 1918 Plate: 11 Plate box: 32 The file list would then be consulted to find the container which contained the 32nd box of plates from R.D. McCaw's 1918 survey.
