History
Imbert Orchard was born Robert Henslow Orchard and was educated in England. He pursued a career in theatre in Ontario and later taught drama at the University of Alberta. In 1955, he came to B.C., where he was hired by CBC Vancouver as a regional script editor for television. He also began producing documentary history programs for CBC Radio. His first series, "Living Memory", aired from 1961 to 1964. It was followed by the Centennial series "From the Mountains to the Sea" (1967) and the long-running "People in Landscape' (1968-1972). In 1972, Orchard left the CBC to join the Communications Studies Department at Simon Fraser University. In the 1970s and early 1980s, he was closely associated with the Aural History Programme (later the Sound and Moving Image Division) at the Provincial Archives of British Columbia. He researched and wrote three books, and produced four sound programs, for the archives' Sound Heritage Series.
