SUMMARY: This program features the stories of two long canoe journeys -- one in 1868, when a missionary took his bride from Victoria to the Nass in a large Indian canoe; and the second in 1937, when a teenaged girl made a trip all by herself from Anacortes to Ketchikan, Alaska. The voices heard are Agnes Johnson and Betty Carey.

Out-takes. The destruction of Ripple Rock, a long-time menace to shipping in Seymour Narrows, by the world's largest non-nuclear explosion. Footage includes animated diagrams of the project; preparatory tests with models; underwater tunnelling and drilling operations; the shipment and placing of explosives; aerial and general views of the Narrows, and the various technical preparations for the explosion, as well as the blast and its results.

Footage. Shows various supply and construction activities associated with the project of tunneling under Seymour Narrows and placing dynamite under Ripple Rock. Includes shots of coastal features near the site, a freighter in Seymour Narrows, Painter's Lodge (Campbell River), construction of wooden frame buildings, and a sequence showing a turkey dinner being served to a work crew. No shots of the actual explosion are included. One sequence shows the freightboat "Cloverleaf IV" being loaded and en route (possibly to Ahousat, on the west coast of Vancouver Island). Unrelated material (in two segments) shows a De Havilland Comet Mk. 3 airliner with BOAC markings (registration G-ANLO) landing, taxiing, and disembarking passengers at Vancouver Airport.

The item is a composite print of a travelogue, made in 1974. It shows a sailing vessel sailing the Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and the Mainland and north to Skagway and Ketchikan, Alaska. The sailing vessel is the "Nathaniel Bowditch".

Ferries representatives, and tourists, discussing the successful establishment of packaged off-season tours of the Inside Passage and Vancouver Island. Promotes the idea of "packaging" and the year-round possibilities for tourism in British Columbia. Tape was included in a folder with a booklet on packaging and advertisements for the tours.

The item is a release print of a travelogue from 1967. It depicts the attractions of Alaska and the Yukon Territory; includes CN's "Northland Prince" leaving Vancouver harbour and sailing up the Inside Passage to Alaska. Narration includes excerpts from the poetry of Robert W. Service.
