History

Arthur David John Pitts was a best known as a British Columbian cartoonist and painter. Born in London, England Pitts studied art at Westminster School of Art. He first came to Canada in 1914, and maintained arts connections to his home country throughout his life. His cartoons were published in Lilliput, London Illustrated News, and London Opinion, Punch. On Vancouver Island he taught art and was a founding member of the Saanich Peninsula Art Centre.
