Jack Radford was born in Nanaimo in 1929. He attended high school in Ladysmith and moved to Vancouver with his family in 1948. He worked for Swift Meats for 20 years and accepted a position in the IWA, then went on to become a representative for the Canadian Labour Congress. This led him to an interest in politics. He ran in Vancouver South for the NDP in 1972, winning a seat and was appointed Minister of Conservation and Recreation. After he left politics he became a partner in the Vista Social Club in Victoria. He died in Victoria on May 19, 2003.
