Series consists of records management studies. Includes studies about the establishment and organizational structure of the records management programs in the British Columbia government (including the 1981 Acton "Records Management Study" and the 1980 report by Archives staff, "Records Management in the Government of B.C."), record surveys of the holdings of government ministries, a 1984 survey of computer programs, and British Columbia Archives studies on archival programs. Many of these reports were maintained in the Records Management Branch's library for reference purposes.

The series consists of policy and procedure reports. Includes operating manuals, documentation, and procedures regarding the Operational Records Classification System. The records include both draft and final copies.

Provincial Archives correspondence and general office files

The series consists of general office files created by the Provincial Archives of British Columbia from 1910 to 1989, the British Columbia Records Management Branch from 1982 to 1989, their joint successor the BC Archives and Records Service, between 1989 and 1996 and the British Columbia Archives from 1996 to 1998 The files contain correspondence between the Provincial Archivist and other government bodies as well as correspondence with the public and executive referral correspondence. There are also internal office files regarding Archives and records management policies and acquisitions, staffing and other administrative and operational matters.

Series consists of records made or received by the Public Documents Committee. These records document the management and disposition of records by the BC Government in accordance with the Document Disposal Act.

The series consists primarily of correspondence but it also contains other documents intermingled in the files. These include meeting minutes and agendas, policy and procedures, reports, and applications and recommendations for the disposal or retention of government records.

The series contains a large number of records created before the establishment of the Public Documents Committee in 1953. Most of these records were created by the Select Standing Committee of the House on Printing which was originally responsible for these functions between 1936 and 1953.
