The item is a film print of special event coverage. To commemorate the hundred years since British Columbia joined the confederation of Canada as a province, the ten provinces and two territories each sent a seven-man crew into the B.C. interior for a nineteen-day sojourn over some 817 miles of provincial waters. The purpose was to draw attention to the challenge of Canada's outdoors and canoeing, and at the same time retrace the past routes followed by explorers. Travelling in twenty-five Norwester canoes, the flotilla began its journey from Fort St. James and concluded at Victoria's Inner Harbour.

The series consists of records created by the Game Commission (1948-1957) and the Fish and Game Branch (1957-1966). The series contains subject files relating to hunting accidents, firearms safety training, the transfer of the headquarters office from Vancouver to Victoria, wildlife management, private shooting areas, game fish culture, river and stream pollution and obstructions, water licences, and parks. The records relate to a wide variety of topics such as habitat protection, pollution, the impacts of resource extraction projects, impacts of recreation activities, wildlife management and fisheries management across the province.

The series also includes the personal monthly duty diaries of a conservation officer.

The series consists of records created by the Fish and Wildlife Branch between 1966 and 1978. The records include subject files relating to game, wildlife and fisheries management and conservation, environmental protection and habitat improvement; the administration of fish and game laws, ecological and scientific investigations, pollution, pesticides, and protection of stream and river habitat, predator control and outdoor recreation.

The files consist of correspondence, annual reports and memoranda.

The series consists of records created by the Game Commission (1920-1957), the Fish and Game Branch (1957-1966), and the Fish and Wildlife Branch (1966-1977) relating to game, wildlife and fisheries management and conservation; environmental protection and habitat improvement; the administration of fish, trapping, and game laws; ecological and scientific investigations; water license applications and stream obstruction reports; flood control, pollution and protection of stream and river habitat; predator and rodent control; hunting, sports fisheries, outdoor recreation, and parks; Branch policy and administration.

The files contain correspondence, annual reports, manuals, memoranda and special reports and include correspondence with conservation and environmental groups, fish and game clubs, professional organizations of conservation officers, and other agencies of government.

The series also includes a subject file index (see box 2) and an index of orders-in-council relating to game enforcement, 1885-1968; hatchery records of the Cultus Lake, Smith Falls, and Lloyds Creek hatcheries of the Fish Culture Service, administered by the Canada Dept. of Marine and Fisheries (1920-1938) and the B.C. Came Commission (1938-1949).

This series contains records relating to map production, map distribution, personnel and staff salaries. It includes miscellaneous memoranda on resources along the route of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway (1936-1942) and a memorandum by F.C. Green on the Post-War Rehabilitation Council, 1943. This unit also includes three notebooks of G.G. Aitken, Chief Geographer, on map production, survey instructions, accounts, and acreages of streams and rivers in British Columbia.

The series consists of loose photographs, a mixture of negatives and prints, taken by Carmichael in the early 1900s. They are of various places including Alberni, Powell River, Haida Gwaii and Peace River and show landscapes, water courses, dams and people as well as mining operations. Several prints may have been removed from an album.

Each image was given an HP (historic photograph) number in the sequence HP001665 to HP001739 and kept as part of the Archives general file (accession 193501-001). Prints, both original and copy, are in the HP original folders while negatives, both original and copy, are filed either by HP number or by negative number, depending on the media (glass, nitrate, acetate etc.).

This series contains records of emergency aid and damage assistance pertaining to the Fraser River flood of May 1948, pursuant to the Flood Relief Act, 1948. The records consist of subject correspondence files, correspondence with local rehabilitation committees, appraisals of property damage reviewed by the Authority, and accounts of damage to stock, feed, seed, and crops.

The item is a reel of documentary film. It is a poetic study of the hydrologic cycle, the many uses of water (especially recreational), and the life one might expect to see along shores and banks. The film includes shots of canoeing, kayaking, moose, herons, rivers, lakes, seashores, recreationists and children. There is no narration.
