Administrative history

Sandon was incorporated January 1, 1898 under section 20 of the Speedy Incorporation of Towns Act, 1897 (see British Columbia Gazette, December 30, 1897, p. 3983). In March, 1913 the city went into receivership under terms of the Sandon Receivership Act (see British Columbia Statutes 1913, c. 55, with subsequent amendment acts) . On April 17, 1920 the city was disincorporated by An Act to Disincorporate the City of Sandon. (See British Columbia Statutes, 1920, c. 81).

Custodial history

After Sandon went into receivership, records were transferred to and maintained in the office of the Government Agent, Kaslo, who continued to be responsible for the wind-up of affairs. Some records may be created by the Receiver or the Government Agent during their administration of the townsite. Records were transferred to the Provincial Archives in February, 1972.

Scope and content

This series consists of the records of the Corporation of the City of Sandon from 1898 to 1953. Records include letters, minute books, correspondence, memoranda, by-laws, voters lists, reports, accounting material, and other miscellaneous records.
