Biographical history

The Shepherd family consists of Francis Henry Shepherd and Jane Holden, their children Francis Holden Shepherd and Margaret Millicent Shepherd, Louis Henry Shepherd, Jessie Edith Shepherd (later Mrs. Sydney Parker) and Charlotte Mary Shepherd (later Mrs. Allan McTavish Anderson). Children of Francis Holden Shepherd include Yvonne Maddocks, Frank Shepherd and Richard Shepherd.

Custodial history

The fonds was in the physical custody of the Surrey Museum up until around 1988 at which time it was transferred to the BC Archives for consideration as a donation. The donation was approved by the BC Archives, but the family was unable to decide on its final disposition. The fonds was donated to the Royal BC Museum in 2008 by Mrs. Yvonne Maddocks, a granddaughter of Francis Holden Shepherd.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of photographic negatives and a photograph album dating between the 1890s and late 1930s. The fonds also includes a scrapbook of chiefly World War One newspaper clippings, photographs, drawings and memorabilia assembled by Margaret Millicent Shepherd; diaries and notebooks kept by Francis Holden Shepherd between 1916-1919; a few newspaper clippings and school report cards; and an issue of the Nanaimo Free Press dated 14 Apr 1880 with the marriage notice for F.H. Shepherd and Jane (Jennie) Holden.
