Douglas, James, Sir, 1803-1877

Biographical history

James Douglas joined the North West Company in 1819 and the Hudson's Bay Company in 1821, ultimately serving as Chief Factor of British Columbia. He was a governor of the colony of Vancouver Island and the first governor of the united colony of British Columbia. He was knighted in 1863. Douglas died in Victoria, B.C.
