Adoption

Item consists of two 60 second television commercials on adoption, created by the Ministry of Human Resources in 1979 as part of the "Year of the child and family in B.C." program.

[B.C. generic (2x30) / B.C. premier (1x30)]

Television commercials. Expo '86 promotional spots on the "invite the world" theme. First two include aerial views of B.C. natural scenery, of Vancouver, fireworks, graphics. Third promotional spot includes aerials of B.C. scenery and Vancouver, plus welcoming speech by Premier W. R. Bennett.

This accession mainly comprises radio commercials promoting British Columbia produce -- fruit, vegetables, eggs, turkey, pork, and dairy products -- and the B.C. Foodstakes. There are also a few recordings that were produced to serve as sound tracks for audio-visual (i.e., slide-tape) presentations.

British Columbia Hydro : miscellaneous TV ads

The item consists of four print or kinescope selections of television commercials promoting electrical services and appliances, made between 1957 and 1967. They include ads for "Medallion" homes and "Housepower" wiring, natural gas heating and BC Hydro heating advisory service, etc. Some ads may have been produced in BC while others were clearly produced elsewhere; most contain some reference to BC Hydro, either through an end credit or in the voice-over narration. It is not always clear whether this reference was part of the original production or was simply added to a stock commercial supplied by a service.

British Columbia Hydro : two television spots

The item consists of a composite print of a film reel of television commercials from 1975 and 1976. It includes two 60-second television spots promoting B.C. Hydro. The first, "Environmental Resources," profiles the work of Hydro's Environmental Resources Department. The second, "Sunrise," is a general spot promoting the reliability of Hydro's service, and emphasizing the need to use energy wisely.

The item consists of a video containing six television commercials produced in 1979 for the B.C. Lotteries Branch.

Centennial '71

The item consists of a reel of film footage and accompanying magnetic track. Assembly of mixed film material (possibly related to a set of television commercials) prepared for the 1971 Centennial celebrations. Footage includes B.C. natural scenery, historic photographs, industries and cities in B.C., and other subjects.

Child abuse/neglect

Item consists of one 60 second television commercial on child abuse, created by the Ministry of Human Resources in 1979 as part of the "Year of the child and family in B.C." program.

Commercials

The series consists entirely of moving image documents (originals and reproductions) of television commercials directed by Phillip Borsos in the 1980s and early 1990s.

In order to supplement his income as a filmmaker, Borsos (through his company Mercury Pictures Inc. and a production service, The Partners' Film Company) directed television commercials for various products, services and British Columbia provincial government programs.

[Crown Life commercials]

Television commercials. Four advertising spots: "Transportation", "Communication", "Tree House" (English), and "Tree House" (French). The ads show a small group of children playing while a voice-over discusses their future in terms of transportation and communication, Crown Life's role, and the role of Expo 86.
