Biographical history
In 1988, the Ministry of Forests was renamed from the Ministry of Forests and Lands (OIC 1305/1988). The Ministry of Forests was responsible for the management of forest and range resources of the Crown and the planned use of such land in accordance with the Forest Act and Department of Forest Act. The department was also responsible for encouraging maximum productivity of those resources and encouraging a competitive timber processing industry in the province. The new organizational structure consisted of three divisions: Forestry, Operations and Management Services. A number of branches also reported directly to the Deputy Minister. During fiscal year 1993-1994, a Policy and Planning Division was formed to take in the branches that formerly reported directly to the Deputy. The ministry was renamed the Ministry of Forests and Range in 2005 (OIC 450/2005).

Biographical history
The Ministry of Forests and Range was renamed from the Ministry of Forests in 2005 (OIC 450/2005). The ministry had the mandate to manage and conserve forest and range resources for short and long term benefits to protect and sustain forest productivity and to encourage competitive forest and range industries. The ministry was also responsible for managing housing through the Office of Housing and Construction Standards from 2005 to 2008 when this office was transferred to the Ministry of Housing and Social Development.
In 2010 a government reorganization resulted in several changes. Some functions from the Ministry of Forests and Range were transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and the newly established Ministry of Natural Resource Operations. At the same time, several functions related to lands from the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, and several functions related to mines from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources were transferred to the Ministry of Forests and Range. As a result of these changes, the Ministry of Forests and range was renamed the Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands (OIC 652/2010).
Custodial history
Scope and content
Series consists of nursery files by the Ministry of Forests’ Nursery Services unit between 1995 and 2007. These files document the administration of tree nurseries by the ministry in the southern interior region of British Columbia. These nurseries provide seedlings for the reforestation of Crown Lands.
There are two types of files in this series. The first type consist of policy and procedure documentation relating to the ordering of summer stock seedlings and the cold storage of seedlings.
The second type consists of pesticide application reports. These reports document the types of pesticides used at nurseries throughout the southern interior. Many of the nurseries in the province were managed by private contractors and many of the reports were created by the contractor. There are also copies of BC Government computer printouts taken from the Nursery and Shipping Administration System (NSA). These reports list the location of the nursery, the type of pesticide applied and the purpose of the pesticide.
