It includes a request for new road construction from the Victoria Driving Club and the Victoria Tourist Association, and correspondence about cows wandering at large in Oak Bay. This series contains reports and despatches between the Senior Naval Officer (Esquimalt, B.C.) & the Secretary of the Admiralty, Whitehall (London, Eng.). The correspondence includes letters from colonial governors and despatches from Deputy Adjutant General (B.C. militia district). The records also include lists of naval stores storekeepers' accounts, sketch maps of naval reserves and stations, and printed reports.

This series consists of a Cowichan Land District land register for various lots on Vancouver Island and other islands, including: Galiano Island, Mayne Island and Pender Island. The entries are arranged numerically by lots within local areas, i.e. individual islands. Records date from 1891 onwards and the volume was superseded in 1929 (i.e. no further entries were made after 1929).

This volume is a continuation of an unknown previous register and records the alienation of land from the Crown (by purchase, pre-emption, lease etc.). The item is a timber cruiser's logbook, apparently owned by Donald Alexander McPhee. The book contains sketch maps of Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing Company lots in the Cowichan and other South Vancouver Island districts with timber types noted.

The series consists of a letter book created by the Collector of Customs in the Vancouver Island Customs Dept. between 1858 and 1871 and the Canada Customs Department between 1871 and 1876. It contains copies of correspondence outward from the Customs Houses in Victoria and New Westminster. There is an index to the volume.

Della Falls and vicinity : aerial views

The item is three reels of film out-takes from 1971. It contains aerial footage of the interior of Vancouver Island, especially Della Falls and vicinity, shot from a helicopter. The first two reels, shot when snow was on the ground, feature dramatic high-angle shots of mountain peaks, sheer cliffs, river gorges, the falls, water draining from a mountain-top snow field, a large lake, and large log booms; there is also a sequence showing the helicopter sitting on the snow while a man walks nearby. The third reel covers the same ground, but with no snow visible, and with the helicopter flying considerably lower over the rivers, etc. This footage may be out-takes from footage shot for the BC government travelogue "Island Eden."

Diaries

Diaries of H.E. Church, 1890-1933; account book and personal papers of R.H. Church, 1927-1969; business papers re the Church ranch; papers of the Big Creek Stock Breeders Association, 1923-1969. H.E. Church emigrated from England to Canada in 1886. He homesteaded on Sheep Creek in Southern Alberta from 1887 to 1897, farmed at Comox, B.C. from 1897 to 1902, and in 1903 moved to Big Creek, B.C.

Diaries

Diaries, 1911-1961 (57 vols.). Mr. Capes emigrated from England to Vancouver in 1911. He lived in Portland, Oregon, from 1913 to 1917, served overseas in the Canadian army from 1917 to 1919, worked in the Soldier Settlement Board office in Merville from 1920-1922 and lived in Courtenay from 1922. The diaries record his daily activities and reflect his interest in hiking, mountaineering and fishing. They contain a number of leaflets and programmes of activities in the Courtenay area.

Diary of a trip "out West" in 1933

The item consists of an illustrated typed transcript of a diary of a trip "out West' taken by Kit A. Sauvary from June 22 to July 30, 1933. Kit Sauvary and her party traveled across the Northern United States by automobile from Toronto, entering British Columbia South of Kootenay Lake. They took the Southern Trans-Provincial Highway to Princeton, North to Spences Bridge, and down the Fraser Canyon. They visited Vancouver and Vancouver Island before returning via the Banff Windermere Highway and the Rockies, through the United States and back to Toronto. The diary was written as a series of letters to Sauvary's parents in Guernsey, typed up in 1979 and contains photographs and marked route maps of the journey from 1933.

Diary of Marshall Bond

The item is a photocopy of Marshall Bond's diary book from February and March 1913. It details Bond's trip from Seattle to Vancouver Island for a fishing trip. It also includes business notes, addresses and lists of words and their definitions.

Dinner for Miss Creeden

The item is an Industrial film on colour print made in 1947. It is a film about the growth of B.C. Electric from 1906 to 1946, built around the story of stenographer Flossie Creeden, the first female office employee of the company. Footage includes: Goldstream power plant, Vancouver natural gas facilities, BC Electric Railway lines in Fraser Valley, Stave Falls generator plant, Alouette Lake and Ruskin plants, 1939 royal visit, BCE employee's newsletter, A.E. Grauer family at home, office scenes, plans & construction at Bridge River project, BCE employee's service in World Wars I & II and BCE streetcar and trolley bus services.

Amateur film. Travel footage showing places and scenery in British Columbia's southern interior, including the Okanagan, Boundary, Arrow Lakes, Slocan, Shuswap, Nicola and Big Bend regions. Also includes footage showing activities in Zeballos and vicinity during the gold rush there: mining, community celebrations and sports, a flood, and various transport aircraft serving the area. There is also footage showing logging operations, presumably on Vancouver Island.
