Biographical history

William Thomas Ross was born in Haynes, Alberta on December 21, 1913. Ross grew up in Richmond, where his family had moved in 1922 to farm, and graduated from Richmond High School in 1930 with junior matriculation. He completed his senior matriculation at Magee High School in 1931.

Following graduation he worked in the fishing industry as a fisherman, tally-man, lineman and net man before becoming assistant manager at North Pacific Cannery in 1946. As assistant manager, his primary responsibility was to deal with the plant, to make sure boats were ready and repairs were carried out. Ross remained in that position until 1966 when he became the manager of North Pacific. As manager, his primary responsibility was to deal with the fishermen. On 25 August 1970 he moved to Oceanside Cannery in Prince Rupert as manager, leaving that position to become manager of Sterling Shipyard, the ship repair division of the Canadian Fishing Company, in Vancouver on 28 September 1973.

Ross retired from Sterling in 1978.

Ross died in Richmond, B.C. on November 28, 1988.
