Allan D. Taylor film collection

The collection consists of video copies of 36 film items from the Allan D. Taylor collection held by Library and Archives Canada. These selected items (mainly newsreel footage and out-takes) depict British Columbia events, leisure activities, scenery and cityscapes in Victoria and Vancouver, on Vancouver Island, or in the Interior (for example, Kamloops and Lillooet), during the period 1907-1931. Several items filmed during World War One show events related to the war, including the departures of various military units for the conflict. The collection includes at least one item fillmed by Vancouver filmmaker A.D. "Cowboy" Kean, and a few others that are attributed to him.

Camped at Willows with the Second Canadian Mounted Rifles; news of the sinking of the "Lusitania" and the loss of James Dunsmuir [i.e., James A. Dunsmuir, Jr.]; frustration of waiting to go overseas; the attack on the Kaiserhof Hotel; being stationed at the Phoenix Brewery. Pearkes' theory on how the riot started. The "carnival" atmosphere.

Remembrance Day compilation

The item is a compilation video made by the Royal BC Museum using clips from archival newsreel and amateur footage. It shows mobilization and wartime scenes in Victoria and Vancouver during World War One (clips 1-5) and World War Two (clips 6-10). The Second World War material also includes civil defence activities in Vancouver, and Girl Guides collecting salvage for the war effort.
