Untitled manuscript consisting of a preface, an introductory chapter on Compton's voyage from England to Victoria via the Straits of Magellan, and sections on the geographical features (29 p.), the aboriginal inhabitants (39 p. and 78 p.), and the natural history (85 p.) of the British Columbia Coast. Compton traveled to Victoria on board the H.B.C. steamer Labouchere, arriving at Esquimalt on January 30, 1859. He served on the Labouchere as purser and at Fort Rupert as a H.B.C. clerk. The typed transcript is entitled as "Account of early trip to Fort Victoria and of life in the colony".
